Students need adequate nourishment in order to thrive. Not only proper physical development, but also emotional and cognitive development depends upon a child receiving appropriate nutrition. A child can be taught in a supportive, resource-rich environment, can be given additional tutoring and help, but if that child is hungry, they will be unable to learn to their fullest potential.
The Newlin Partnership addresses this critical need by providing food for weekend meals to food-insecure Newlin students. The Backpack Food Program provides an essential foundation for the educational work done by other Newlin Partnership programs.
"Weekend backpacks were a welcomed supplement to a tight food budget. My daughter enjoyed the nutritious food and shared it with her sister." (Parent)
"The student support team is glad to serve 75 students with food for the weekends. We wish every student was selected. Teachers have recommended students in need; students have eagerly requested it and parents have been asking/giving permission to participate. It’s a blessing to all involved." (Newlin Social Worker)
